Here’s some questions that we’ve received in the ole mailroom from folks that have stopped by the site over the post little while. Thanks for sending us some feedback!
So what is the Sports Blog Network?
The Sports Blog Network is a group of writers talking about the goings on of their favourite team, and the sports world as a whole.
Has it been around long?
Since the beginning of July 2010.
What sports does your website cover?
Right now we’re aiming for covering the “big four” in the North American sport scene, plus the Canadian Football League and English Premier. The reasons for this is that most of the current writers connections are mainly in North America, and hence easier to gain potential readers.
Do you cover *insert team/league here* ?
Currently if it’s in the leagues listed above, we’ll cover it. Otherwise not at this time (although if we can get enough writers we’re more then willing to expand our gaze)
What made you decide to start this?
A conversation on a sports board that I frequented, where folks were complaining about the coverage of ESPN and how they wish there was an alternative that they could view to get sports news without the “east coast bias”. That and always wanting to run my own sports magazine helped as well.
When would you say the Sports Blog Network has “hit the big time”?
When I can write for the local junior hockey team and have double digit totals in the comment section. Then I’m sure that every other part of the site is a success.
I dont’ see any articles on *insert team/league here* ! Why not?
Probably one of two reasons. Either it’s not in the leagues mentioned earlier, or we don’t have a fulltime writer for that team yet.
How come you have to enter a code to post a comment? Why are comments moderated?
When I started up the blog, I left the comments wide open so that people could post easily In reality that just gives you a three day window before the automated spamming networks find your site and slam it with fifty comments a day (for starters) of gibberish. The code system helps to practically negate that. The moderation system is to catch the folks that manually go around and spam blogs with vague comment posts that your article really helped them in some way, which for sports article is a bit odd. Long story short, if your comment is on topic with the article at hand, doesn’t have links, and doesn’t look like you let your two year old type it, there will be no changes made to it.
How do you become a writer on this site?
Check out our careers section.
How much does being a writer here pay?
At present, not a thing. We’re hoping that with the word getting out and more and more traffic stopping by, we’ll eventually be able to change that.
How come you have so many ads?
See above. Those ads are author’s “bread and butter” so to speak, as for every ad clicked on when a visitor is viewing an article, the author makes money from that click.
Why not just charge for access, like the Wall Street Journal?
Because if I wanted to charge for news, I would have bought a newspaper. There’s tons out there to choose from on the bankruptcy markets. Plus you’d’ get the ads anyways even with paid access. The current way that news is delivered on the internet, you’re saving trees and subscription costs.
I really like *insert author’s name here*’s writing. Is there a way that I can send my appreciation?
There’s a few ways. You can send us a message ad we can forward it along. Comments always work, as us writers love feedback on our stories. And if you want to make a donation, clicking on an ad is a very simple way to do so, don’t need to set up a paypal account or anything.
Do you need anyone to translate your stories?
Not at this time, although that is one of the future plans.
How can I contact you?
Our contact section will do the job.
Awesome choice for the picture on this page!
Thanks. You’d be amazed how hard it is to find a picture that fits an FAQ type page.
